Scouts America Troop 242 – Villa Park, Illinois

Troop 242 has been supporting Villa Park and Lombard for 50 years!

On June 27, 2026, all current and former scouts and scouters of Troop 242 are invited for a reunion at V.F.W. Post #2801 from 3:00 to 7:00.

Bring your stories of summer camps, campfires, camp cooking expertise. If you have any memorabilia, bring that along too to stir up some memories!

Latest from the Troop

  • We had a great time at our first campout of 2026 spending time in the Ansel Cabin and a lot of time outdoors at Camp Big Timber.
  • In February we had a Lock-In with games and movies and pizza.
  • March had us booked at Cantigny for our cold weather tent camp and cookout.
  • April took us back out to Galena, Illinois for great weather at Grant’s Pilgrimage.
  • For May we stayed local and went out to Pratt’s Wayne Woods to celebrate the beginning of summer vacation.
  • We’re headed to Camp Rotary in Clare, Michigan for a week of summer fun!

We are now a Family Troop!

Scouting America authorized a new type of troop that permits both girl and boy scouts in the same troop instead of having a unique troop for boys and a separate one for girls. Troop 242 has officially become a family troop with the consent of the our home organization the Villa Park V.F.W., the Three Fires Council, and the scouts themselves.

Pratt’s Wayne Woods – West Chicago, Il.

School’s out and camping is IN. Not INdiana, but at our local DuPage Forest Preserve. A little bit of rain on Sunday morning allowed all to sleep in to the mesmerizing sounds of the downpour. Our troop anglers caught a record haul and are working toward their complete angler recognition.

Spring Court of Honor

We have three new “Scout” ranks in our ranks. In addition, there were quite a number of merit badges earned and awarded followed by tasty treats.

Grant’s Pilgrimage – Galena, Il.

We had fantastic weather this year for our fifth visit to Galena to walk in the footsteps of General U.S. Grant. The city welcomed us, once again, with Civil War battle reenactments, root beer, and quite a bit of history. Many stairs were climbed and I’m sure we made our 10,000 steps for the day.

Polar Bear Camp – Cantigny, Wheaton Il.

Although the weather in March was not quite ‘Polar’ this was our start for the tent camping season complete with cooking over a wood fire. We enjoyed the use of a Cantigny youth campsite with time to explore the tanks!
